Suns continue looking for wins in 2024

The Taber Golden Suns were all back in action this past weekend as the three teams continued to add to their win columns in the South Central Alberta Hockey League.

U13 

It was a tough weekend for the U13 Golden Suns as they had to take on the Lethbridge Hurricanes for a pair of games. The first was on Friday as the Suns hit the road to Lethbridge.

Unfortunately for the Suns, the Hurricanes scored early and often en route to a 14-3 victory. Taber saw goals from Jaxton Rodeback, Jude Klingenberg, and Dax Hill. Cole Swanson and Travis Jackson each notched one assist in the game. Both goalies got into the game for Taber as Drew Tame made 26 saves on 32 shots while Cale Campbell had 15 saves on 23 shots.

On Sunday, the Canes came to Taber for the rematch and the result was fairly similar as the visitors skated to a 10-3 win. Rodeback, Grayson Honess, and Lincoln Deleeuw had the Taber goals while Jackson had another assist. Campbell got the start in net and made 44 saves on 54 shots.

The U13 Suns see their final SCHAL game of the month upcoming on Friday as they head out on the road to take on the Wheatland Braves. Looking at the standings, Taber sits in fifth place in the South Conference with a 5-21 record.

U15

The U15 Suns return to the ice to resume their SCHAL season on Jan. 20 against the West Central Tigers and on Jan. 21 against the Red Deer Steel Kings. Both games are on the road.

U18 

It was a two-game home stand against the Medicine Hat Hounds for the U18 Golden Suns this past weekend. The first game went on Saturday night and the Suns were victorious thanks to a five-goal second period as they took it 7-4. Connor Chapman and Chase Stronge each notched a hat trick and an assist in the win while Lincoln Weiss had a goal and two assists, Jett Matisho had three assists, and Conrad Mehlhaff, Berkley Emelson, and Landon Howg all had one assist. Keegan Stenger was solid between the pipes as the netminder made 39 saves on 43 shots.

The team continued to fill the net in the second game against Medicine Hat as Taber skated to an 8-3 win to take the weekend series 2-0. Stronge continued his strong play with another hat trick and an assist while Jett Matisho and Chapman had two goals and an assist. Howg added another pair of assists, Hayden Smith had a single goal, and Evan Koizumi and Ryler Kiss had an assist each. Kahil Wright made 39 saves on 42 shots for the win in net.

The Suns return to the ice for one game this coming weekend as they head to Medicine Hat on Saturday to take on the Hounds. Taber currently sits in third place in the South Division with a 9-13-1 record.
