The Town’s off-leash dog park has been the subject of specific requests for improvements over the past couple of years.
Brian Martin, the Town’s recreation manager, confirmed that there have been requests for a number of upgrades: irrigation for the entire area, a hydroseed application, grading and leveling of the grounds, an improved pathway, and installation of new fencing around the perimeter.
In a statement, Martin said, “To address these concerns, Town administration presented the matter to council on Nov. 14 as a standing item. Administration has compiled a project statement for council’s consideration, and the standing items are scheduled to be discussed in the first council meetings of 2024.”
Located on the edge of town just off of Highway 864, the area is a well-worn piece of land with plenty of space for dogs to exercise and burn off energy.
“It’s important to note that despite budget constraints, efforts have been made to enhance the dog park,” Martin explained. “Last year, the Town utilized available funds to install motion-sensing solar-powered lights, add picnic tables, gravel the shelters, and implement measures to prevent shelter instability during windy conditions. As with all infrastructure upgrades, budget limitations can delay or even restrict upgrades, but administration will be presenting more information for council’s consideration in the new year, so we look forward to receiving council’s direction on the future of the dog park.”
