Taber Public Library planning to bring the spooks come this Halloween

As the seasons change into fall the Taber Public Library remains ever consistent with a new month of events for this October. Once again, Dawn Kondas the Program Coordinator for the Library provided an outline of what events the library will be hosting.

“We’re starting off October with a Ukulele Jam, and that is on Saturday, October 7,” said Kondas. “You can bring your own ukulele, but there maybe one or two there for you to borrow, and it’s just for ukulele players of all ages and abilities to come play around and have some fun. We’re not looking for experts or anything, beginner on up.”

This jam session will begin at 1:30 p.m.

“On Wednesday, October 11 we are continuing our senior speaker series, and the topic this month is getting through difficult times. You have to pre-register for that event. We will also be celebrating international day of the older person at the same time. Also on that Wednesday is our circle jam with Shelley K. We did this last month and it was so much fun. It is for any musician to come and play. You each… pick a song and play it. You don’t have to, you can pass, but it is basically just playing along with everybody no matter what the instrument, what type of music. It’s just a lot of fun.”

This senior speakers event will start off at 10:30 a.m. whereas the circle jam session will kick off at 6 p.m.

“On Saturday, October 14 Eagle Spirit Nest Community Association will be doing another craft day and we will be making a dreamcatcher. It is only open to 15 people, and we’re encouraging parents to come with their kids because some of the crafts we do are not beginner level, they are more intermediate, to advanced. They can pre-register here at the library.”

You will need to be at the library at 10:30 a.m. if you want to participate in this craft day.

“Friday, October 20 is our family movie night, and we are going to be showing ‘Lightyear’,” said Kondas. “It starts at 6:30 p.m., and we will be providing popcorn again. Children under nine must be accompanied by an adult and they should stay for the whole movie.”

The week following this movie night two beneficial events for newcomers to Canada will be held at the library.

“Thursday, October 26 Canada Revenue Agency will be here for two presentations. The first one is for newcomers to Canada and everything they need to know about our income tax system. The second one is on scams. That begins at 11 a.m., and then later that day we are also going to be at the Seniors Expo, so you can look for us there too.”

The library has two Halloween themed events to end off this month.

“Friday, October 27 we have Halloween Readings with Tara. She did this last year, so it’s along similar lines of what she did, and it is open to seniors, and teens beginning at 6:30 p.m. Use the east door when you are coming. Tuesday, October 31 is the children’s trick-or-treat story time. it’s going to start at 10:45 a.m. There will be stories, songs, treats, and if the kids come in costumes, they will get extra treats.”

Finally, Kondas provided a sneak peek on something that will be coming to the library in November.

“Just a special note coming in November is a display,” said Kondas. “It is called Leaving Canada: the Mennonite Migration to Mexico, and it is coming from the Mennonite Historical Society of Canada and Mennonite Heritage Valley in Manitoba. It will be here till the first part of January. That should be pretty interesting and it’s open to everybody. It’s going to be set up here in the library by the fireplace.”
