Posted on February 23, 2023 by Taber Times

In Taber provincial court on Feb. 14, Joseph Hudon pled guilty to mischief under $5000.

Judge F. Day sentenced Hudon to serve 30 days under house arrest, followed by a 12 month probation.

While under house arrest Hudon must remain at a residence set by the court, and be under curfew from 10 pm to 6 am. As part of this sentence Hudon is required to keep the peace, keep the court informed about his information, to appear before them when summoned, and when under house arrest he must present himself at the door when required to by a peace officer, or over a landline. Exceptions to these curfews will allow Hudon to continue to go to work, go to doctor appointments and other health related activities, and to travel out to gather basic necessities such as food and clothing once a week. For the 12 month probation, Hudon must keep his distance from the victim including remaining 10 metres away from their residence, place of work, place of worship, place of education, and cannot make contact directly or indirectly with them. Additionally Hudon is required to pay restitution of $800 for four damaged tires.

The accused appeared in court in person. Crown prosecutor R. Poelzer read the facts of the case into the record.

On January 29, 2022 the Taber Police Service received a call from an individual stating that Hudon was pounding on their window, and that Hudon had slashed the tires of their boyfriend’s vehicle. Later the victim confirmed to police that they had witnessed Hudon slash all four tires.
