Information was brought forth to council relating to past motions at their Sept. 12 regular meeting, with one relating to signage for campers to find access areas for potable water around Taber. CAO Derrin Thibault presented the information to council.
“We had an update for the potable water sign and after reading it and talking with Councillor (Joanne) Sorensen, I’m not 100 per cent sure we covered it, so we can further that if it didn’t get covered. (…) It’s a non-answer, answer but we don’t really have something to afford with, but I wanted to take care of it off the standing item list. Maybe Councillor Sorensen could let us know if we addressed it or didn’t.”
A response to the motion is posted in the agenda, saying, “There is a water tap near the bathrooms at the Trout Pond which is signed. Administration will ensure that this information is added to our camping sections of the website under “services available.” It’s also of note that the Municipal District of Taber campground also offers a potable water tap for campers at their site and the information is on their website as well as under their campground page.”
In response, Sorensen stated there may have been a slight misunderstanding. “I was wondering if there could be a sign posted right at the dump station, just mapping out where people, once they’ve emptied, that they can now fill their units with potable water because as I understand it’s not available right at the dump station. Maybe also just showing where the camping locations and potable water locations are.”
Adding to Sorensen’s question, Coun. Carly Firth asked about the Town of Taber website and if the locations are posted there. “I know it says that they were going to add it under camping services, but the website would be my first place to look if I was looking for places to access potable water within a municipality.”
Manager of Engineering and Public Works, Ramin Lahiji, was called up to respond to the question, where he confirmed that he also believes the information should be posted on the website. However, if council would want the information anywhere else he will also make sure it gets done.
