Letters to the Editor Aug. 31

Alberta; a poem for Alberta Day (Sept. 1)

If you travel Canada

And search from sea to sea

You will find a treasure there

This is a jewel to me

From mountains high to valleys low

In rivers, lakes, and streams

From timberlands to prairies

The beauty of it gleams

In agriculture, tourism

And oil industry

From Lethbridge to Grand Prairie

There flows prosperity

It’s friendly, welcome, outstretched hand

To every man is shown

Alberta captures every heart

And gives each heart a home

So whether you’re Alberta born

Or Alberta bound

Settle in and grow some roots

You’re planted in good ground

By Val Leray

Thanks to three Taberites who lend a helping hand

Dear Editor:

I would like to extend my thanks to three Taber Good Samaritans who took the time to stop and help me in my great time of need. I am 78-years-old and had driven from High River to Okotoks to take my handicapped son to the doctors. While waiting for him, I took my dog for a walk when I tripped over an uneven sidewalk and fell, badly breaking my arm in several places and dislocating my wrist. I was sitting on the ground in great pain praying for help when this young woman and her two sons pulled off the road and came to my help. They had been waiting at the stop light and her boys had seen me fall.

Others at the same light just continued on their way. She called 9-1-1, contacted the doctor’s office and my son while her boys looked after my Corgi. She stayed with me until I left in the ambulance and then delivered my car keys and the dog to my son so he could drive home. I do not know their names, only that they were visiting from Taber for some kind of sports event or tournament.

I have since had surgery and am back home and wanted to let her know that I am fine and my family and I are so very thankful for all she did for me in my time of trouble.

Taber has more than good corn, it has wonderful citizens. Don’t we live in a wonderful province where a person can watch strangers leave with keys and their dog and know they will arrive to their owner safely. There is much good in this world of ours that often doesn’t get into the news, so I hope you will print my letter so these wonderful three know how much they are appreciated.

Pauline Claydon,

High River
