“All three games we came out with good starts with the first couple of shifts and then we would disappear for a little bit, then we would come on strong during the second and third periods all three games pretty much,” said Duane Nevil, co-coach of the Taber bantam “AA” Golden Suns. “It’s about us playing a full three periods and we’re not quite there yet. Once we figure that out, we’ll be styling.”
Its three home games at Taber Arena netted a 1-1-1 record starting off with a 5-3 win over Sylvan Lake Lakers on Friday.
Brant Mack tallied twice and Ace Wenbourne, Brock Palmer and Logan Wiebe all had singles. Hunter Johnson recorded two assists and Kolten Heins, Logan Kiss, Clay Leismeister, Palmer and Mack had single helpers.
Taber bantam “AA” Golden Suns continued on with a 5-2 loss to Wheatland Warriors on Saturday.
Mack and Johnson scored for the Suns with assists from Kiss, Leismeister, Wiebe and Wenbourne.
“(Wheatland) has only had one loss all season. We hung in there at 3-2, but then we got into some penalty trouble and then they jumped up on us,” said Nevil. “And they really forechecked. They had everyone moving and our guys, when you have one or two guys moving on a line and one guy is standing, you have to have that consistency, but it’s coming.”
The team finished its whirlwind homestand on Sunday with a 4-4 draw against Foothills Bisons.
Wiebe, Heins, Johnson and Palmer scored for the Suns with assists from Johnson, Wenbourne, Kiss, Palmer, Landon Veluw and Linden Gouw.
Taber bantam “AA” Golden Suns hit the road on Saturday against the Airdrie Lightning and then return home Sunday for a 5:30 p.m. game against Medicine Hat Venom at the Taber Arena.
“In January when we come back after Christmas is when you have to have your team built. When we get Chase Gedny back we will be better, he never played this weekend,” said Nevil. “That will help out, one thing our injuries has given us is it’s given a chance for other guys to step up and they have. It just seems like we have that one or two minutes at the end of a period where we let up and the other team scores.”
MIDGET: Taber midget “AA” Golden Suns suffered tow lopsided losses on the road over the weekend in SCAHL play.
The first was a 7-2 loss to Lacombe Rockets on Friday. Dylan Heppler and Mack Honess tallied for the Taber midget Suns with assists from Matthew Nadeau and Cody Turner. Dylan Swanson and Dillan Kelly faced a combined 37 shots on net.
The team proceeded to drop a 7-1 decision to Red Deer Elks on Saturday.
