Celtics host home tourney

St. Mary’s Celtics boys basketball team finished with a 1-2 record at its home Double Blue Basketball Tournament.

“We didn’t do too bad. We had a couple of lapses in a couple of quarters that cost us games. Being the first tournament with our first few games we had some positives, but at the same time we have a lot of things to work on,” said Justin Hochstein, co-coach of the St. Mary’s Celtics boys basketball team.

“With the positives our defence was pretty good along with our rebounding — a couple of our smaller guys were absolute machines getting right in there. But our ball movement was a little down which will get better with time along with communication.”

The Celtics earned a victory over the Chamberlain Panthers from Grassy Lake while suffering defeats at the hands of F.P. Walshe and Eagle Butte.

“They were both really solid teams. Eagle Butte is 3A so they are pretty solid and F.P. Walshe is usually in the upper parts of 2A,” said Hochstein.

Monday’s home game against Bow Island Gators was canceled due to weather conditions.

The Celtics are scheduled to host Foremost today at 7:45 p.m.

The Celtics will also be participating in a JV basketball tournament at Lethbridge College this weekend.
