Bantam “AA” Golden Suns SCAHL split

Taber bantam “AA” Golden Suns (6-7-1) split its two South Central Alberta Hockey League games it played at home over the weekend.

The first was on Friday night with a 7-2 win over Badlands Longhorns (0-14-2).

Brant Mack, Linden Gouw and Clay Leismeister all tallied twice, with Brock Palmer rounding out the scoring with a single.

Logan Wiebe helped out with four assists and Darian Simmons and Palmer each had two helpers. Gouw, Ace Wenbourne, Clayton Miller, Reed Odland and Landon Veluw each had single assists.

Blaise Unruh earned the win in net, facing 30 shots.

Taber bantam “AA” Golden Suns proceeded to get shut out by Airdrie Lightning (7-3) 7-0 at the Taber Arena on Saturday evening, the victim of two short-handed and one power play goal on special teams.

Unruh faced 46 shots on net.

Taber bantam “AA” Golden Suns hit the road this weekend with a Saturday game against Red Deer Steel Kings and a Sunday game against Bow Valley Timberwolves.

MIDGET: Taber midget “AA” Golden Suns (4-9) earned a split in its two games of SCAHL play starting off with a 7-2 win over Bow Valley Timberwolves (4-7) on Saturday on the road.

Jared Broderson had the hot hand with four goals, with Calvin Swanson registering two goals to go with two assists. Matthew Nadeau notched a single, to go with three assists.

Dylan Heppler and Cole Nakamura both had two assists with Ryan Tessemaker, Steven Swartz and Matthew Kaga getting single helpers.

Dillan Kelly faced 37 shots on net to earn the win for the Golden Suns.

The team proceeded to drop a 5-2 decision to NWCAA Bruins (2-2) in Calgary on the road on Sunday.

Swanson and Broderson scored getting two assists from Nadeau and one from Nakamura. Kelly and Dylan Swanson shared goaltending duties, facing a combined 50 shots.

Taber midget “AA” Golden Suns return home this weekend with a Friday night game against Medicine Hat Venom at 8:30 p.m. at the Taber Arena. The team then hosts Bow Valley Timberwolves on Saturday at 8 p.m. at the Taber Arena.

PEEWEE: Taber peewee “AA” Golden Suns (4-7-1) dropped both of its SCAHL games over the weekend, starting off with a 5-3 defeat, at the hands of Lethbridge Hurricanes Red (10-4-1) on Friday night on the road.

Kolby James, Darian Virostek and Dylan Nevil all scored for the Suns, who got an assist from Brandon Huck, as the Suns could not hold onto two one-goal leads.

Goalie Carl Tetachuk kept the peewee Golden Suns in the game standing on his head, facing an onslaught of 61 shots, as the team was outshot by a three-to-one margin.

The team then suffered an 8-1 loss to Bow Valley Timberwolves (10-1-2) on Saturday on the road.

Kalem Haney scored for the Suns, getting an assist from Tristan Miller. Brayden Peters faced a whopping 70 shots on net for the Golden Suns.

Taber peewee “AA” Golden Suns host Red Deer Parkland on Sunday at the Taber Arena at 1 p.m.
