The Town of Taber and Municipal District of Taber were able to get some insight on issues affecting their region at a joint council meeting on Thursday.

One of those issues was an update on how the Recreation Master Plan is coming along for the town.

A consultant is coming down in the next couple of weeks with an architect to look at the Taber Community Centre complex along with the curling rink.

Town of Taber CAO Cory Armfelt, also shared some survey information with both councils that showed a desire for a dry sports facility.

“The highest requests are indoor sports fields, for example, soccer and lacrosse, climbing walls, walking, jogging (paths), indoor child play spaces were some of the top ones,” said Armfelt. “People are looking for an indoor dry sports complex.”

As the town rec master plan comes close to fruition, both councils have been invited to attend a tour of recreation facilities in other communities on Oct. 17 to get greater insights into how other similar-sized communities are handling recreation infrastructure.

The recreation facility tour leaving early morning will have a look at different facilities in Brooks, Duchess, Strathmore and Cochrane.
